Solving Crimes with DNA
Did you know that one of UCLA’s own bioinformatics professors has served as an expert witness on a murder trial? Do you want to learn how bioinformatics is being applied to forensics and used in criminal trials? Then attend the Computational Genetics Student Group’s forensics speaker event! It is this Tuesday, 5/26 at 6pm in Boelter 4760.
Listen to Jill Licht, a senior criminal analyst for the LA County Sheriff’s Department, and UCLA professor Kirk Lohmueller share their work in forensics. Dr Lohmueller will talk about his research on developing computational tools to interpret forensic DNA. He will also share his experience as an expert witness for a murder trial. Jill Licht will talk about her experiences as a criminal analyst for LA county and discuss how forensic DNA samples are collected, analyzed, and used in criminal cases.
There will also be free food and drinks provided by CGSG!
